It seems like everyone and their brother is trying some new fangled diet each week in order to lose weight. The definition of diet is to restrict yourself to special types of food or small amounts of food as a way to lose weight.

Most often, when people hear the word diet they immediately have negative feelings. The reason for this is because most people think of dieting as a form of torture or discomfort as you are depriving yourself of foods that you would typically enjoy. In addition, most diets are simply fads and while you may lose weight, it is almost impossible to sustain the weight loss for a long period of time.

If you are thinking about dieting or you simply know that you need to lose weight, it is important to know that you do not need to suffer in order to do so. Losing weight will require some work and definitely a certain amount of discipline, but the work can be fun and challenging and offers the potential for good results.

People who go on diets will often see their weight go up and down. This is reflective of the nature of dieting. There are some diets that require cutting out entire food groups, others that use meal replacements, and even some that require severe calorie restrictions. When a person is on the diet the complexity of eating is taken away as there are less foods from which to choose. This means that when a person stops the diet, they typically go back to the way they were eating before, which often results in gaining the weight back.

Eating is a complex endeavor as we live in a time where there are unlimited choices when it comes to food. In addition, we need food in order to live. Unfortunately, people today have used food as a sense of pleasure and reward so many people simply live to eat. In order to maintain a healthy body, people need to learn to be more responsible with how they eat. This means being conscious about the amounts of food that they are eating, but still enjoying the experience of the food.

Eating More to Lose Weight

When it comes to the food that you eat, many people think that they need to eat less in order to lose weight. However, in many cases this is simply not true. Remember, your body needs food in order to survive. It is really about the types of food that you are eating, but it is also about making sure that you are giving your body enough calories each day to survive.

For example, let’s say a woman has decided to limit her calories to 1300 each day. She goes to the gym 4 times a week and burns roughly 400 calories. This leaves just 900 calories to fuel the rest of her body processes throughout the day. If her sedentary calories needed each day are 2210, this means that she is in a calorie deficit of 1300 calories on the days that she exercises.

Many would think that this is great and she would lose weight quickly. However, this is not how the body works. When you are not taking in enough calories your body will go into what is called starvation mode.

During starvation mode the body will slow down metabolism as a way to survive. In addition, for those who are extreme in their dieting, the body may start to breakdown the muscle tissue to use as energy.

Eat Healthy Foods and Exercise Regularly

It is important to make sure that you eat enough food to support your body processes including the growth of your muscles. However, you want to have a slight deficit so that your body is burning up some of the reserve fat it has stored. A calorie deficit should never be more than 500 calories per day.

This can be a challenge for some people, especially those who think they need to eat fewer calories in order to lose weight. However, it is important to come to understand your relationship with food and begin eating to live and not living to eat. A flexible diet when combined with exercise is the best way to achieve the results that you are looking for.

It is also important to make sure that when you decide that you want to lose weight you do not have to do anything drastic. Simply making a few simple changes to the way that you look at food and exercise is the best way to go as this will provide you with a sustainable way to remain healthy. Focus on eating food that is nutritious and make sure that you are eating enough.
